The diamond industry struggled during the first half of the year owing to the euro zone debt crisis, sluggish economic recovery in the United States and depressed demand in Asia. De Beers felt the heat during this period under consideration as it had to endure an embarrassing 50 per cent drop in profits in the first half of 2012, while its total sales also fell to $3.3 billion from $3.9 billion a year ago. >>>

Russia reveals shiny state secret: It's awash in diamonds

Russia has just declassified news that will shake world gem markets to their core: the discovery of a vast new diamond field containing "trillions of carats," enough to supply global markets for another 3,000 years.The Soviets discovered the bonanza back in the 1970s beneath a 35-million-year-old, 62-mile diameter asteroid crater in eastern Siberia known as Popigai Astroblem. >>>
