GIA career fair set for Oct. 22

More than 100 jewelry industry jobs will be available at the Gemological Institute of America's (GIA) annual Jewelry Career Fair and Open House.The career fair is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 22, at the GIA's headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif. Companies scheduled to attend with recruiting opportunities include Ben Bridge Jeweler, Blue Nile, Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Co. and Zale Corp. Among the various positions available are jewelry buyer, gemologist, bench jeweler, retail manager, designer, customer service representative, appraiser, marketing associate, administrative assistant and sales director, among others.

Sad news: Leon Finker, the inventor of the "Trillion cut" and a mainstay of the American diamond trade for decades, died Saturday at the age of 100. Last year, when Finker was about to cross the 100-year mark, I wrote a profile about him for JCK, which can be seen here.
