What's New?

Have a website, but no results?

Many people feel if they build a website, customers will come. Well, not online and not any more. I remember about 10 years ago, with some minor search engine optimization, you could bring your site to the first page of the search engines. But, now with millions of sites out there, getting ranked is much more difficult and very time consuming. It requires many hours of link building, page indexing and on-going search engine optimization. But what's important is the fact that you have about 5 to 6 seconds to get the visitors attention. If you don't have anything interesting or what they are looking for, they can simply close the browser and move on to the next site. So the first step is to create an interactive site and interesting enough to keep the visitors on the site long enough to get them excited and interested. The longer they stay on the site, the better conversion.

What impact conflict diamonds have on investment
By Saul Singer                       Commodity Online          August 16,2010

The conflict diamond issue gained super-star exposure earlier this month with Naomi Campbell's testimony in the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor in the war-crimes court in The Hague. Simultaneously the contentious issue of Zimbabwean diamond exports has not dissipated with the Zimbabwean government holding its first auction of diamonds from the controversial Marange fields last week. >>>

By Leonard R. Polivy        National Jeweler           Aug. 16, 2010

The worst of the recession appears to have passed, as evidenced by cautious consumer spending and jewelers restocking shelves, but recent shifts across the industry--changes in the competitive landscape, fluctuations in the cost of essential materials and consumer-driven price points--have established a "new normal" for jewelers. >>>

Next stop for Italian jewelry? Le Marche
By Catherine Dayrit                 National Jeweler                        Aug. 13, 2010

Ancona, Italy--On a Tuesday morning in late April, a group of U.S. retail jewelers who managed to avoid this spring's volcanic ash-related air travel delays was enjoying a warm day in Italy. But the retailers were not under the Tuscan sun, or even basking in the rays of Arezzo, Valenza or Vicenza--gold manufacturing regions that are familiar ground to Italian jewelry aficionados. Instead, the American jewelers were in a place called Le Marche. >>>

Reducing Retail Business Expense

By Shari Waters                 About.com Guide

There may come a time when a retailer is faced with the need to cut expenses. It could be a slump in the economy or the threat of a new competitor. Or it may simply be the desire to control those ever-expa
nding monthly operating expenditures. Whatever the reason, there are areas in spending in which retailers can reduce without compromising customer service or quality. >>>

Zsa Zsa Gabor
By Carly Wickell,                                                        About.com Guide

Zsa Zsa Gabor's active role in Hollywood was winding down when I was born, but I've seen lots of clips of the actress during my lifetime, including audio of her trademark Dahhling, the name the Hungarian-born Gabor called most people she spoke to during interviews. Born in 1917, Zsa Zsa Gabor has been married nine times (although one, to Felipe de Alba, lasted only a day and was annulled). >>>

Jewelers: Are you in China yet?

By Jan Brassem                   National Jeweler                       Aug 13, 2010

Already, China is the third-largest jewelry market in the world (behind the United States and India), and experts are describing it as the most dynamic one, too. Today, there are more than 250 million potential Chinese jewelry consumers, and that figure is projected to grow to 583 million by 2025. >>>

Source Credibility
By Tim Malone                                JCK                           August 15, 2010

Source credibility can be the difference between making a sale and not even getting a chance to make a presentation. Retail jewelers rely on their ability to be perceived as trustworthy. When source credibility is high, the information presented by a jewelry sales associate is perceived to be useful, thereby facilitating the transfer of knowledge. >>>

Cabs and Stones: Like Candy for Jewelers

By Helen Driggs               Jewelry Making Daily             13 August 2010

I love stones. Faceted, cabbed, rough, smooth, raw, finished, matte, or polished, any color any size. Stones are like candy for jewelers. Whether you cut them yourself or buy them, most of us can admit the reason we fell in love with jewelry making was because of the allure of some fantastic stone we saw in the distant or not so distant past. >>>

The Mystery of the Stolen Time - Solved at Last
By Roe Kalb                Israeli Diamond Industry Blog        16 August 2010

The story has everything necessary to make it a Hollywood blockbuster: clocks and artwork worth tens of millions of dollars, a 25-year-long police investigation, and a legendary burglar who dies penniless. But it's not a movie - it's a real story that happened in the 1980s in the Museum of Islamic Art and is still amazing detectives in Israel and all over the world. >>>
