New York--The number of jewelry crimes saw a slight increase last year, but the disturbing news for brick-and-mortar jewelers is that they were increasingly the prime target. After a nearly 17 percent spike in 2008, industry crime climbed more modestly in 2009, U.S. data gathered by the Jewelers' Security Alliance (JSA) shows.The JSA 2009 Annual Crime Report found that industry crimes totaled 1,557 in 2009, up from 1,505 in 2008, a 3.5 percent increase. >>>
