National Jeweler                              April 20.2009

New York--The luxury goods market faces a 15-20 percent decline during the first two quarters of 2009, decreasing from $219.81 billion in 2008 to about $197.82 billion, according to the latest study from global business consulting firm Bain and Co.>>>

JA's New JPAC Board Members and Fundraising Efforts

Jewelers Circular Keystone,                                 4/20/2009

Jewelers of America recently added seven board members to its Political Action Committee--a venue that contributes funds to the campaigns of legislators who are sympathetic to the jewelry industry--in addition to launching a fundraising campaign. Efforts in the latter include reaching out to JA members for contributions that will politically benefit the causes of the jewelry industry. >>>

Regional report on bridal: How big is the diamond?
By Joseph Dobrian            National Jeweler           April 17.2009

For bridal, what size diamonds are customers asking for, on average? National Jeweler asked jewelers around the country to weigh in for our Regional Report. NORTHEAST --"Between 1.20 and 1.30 carats is the average. Two-carat stones had been more popular, but pricing got out of control," says Solly Refael, Danielle Trissi Ltd., Scarsdale, N.Y. >>>

Are Diamonds Still A Girl's Best Friend?

By: Kiri Blakeley               Forbes.com                 April17.2009

The diamond business is cold as ice. Several respected diamond retailers, such as Fortunoff, Whitehall, Finlay, Shane Co. and Ultra Stores, have gone out of business, and others, like Zales, are struggling to stay afloat. But while diamond retailers may be dropping like stones, that doesn't mean that people aren't getting engaged--and that still means, in most cases, a diamond ring.>>>

Wild Things: Jewelry Goes Natural!
By Deborah Yonick, Colored Stone's Trends Tracker        April 2009

Nature has inspired designers throughout history, but our growing concerns for our planet, as well as our desire to be more connected with reality, have placed a greater, more urgent focus on the natural elements of our world. Today's hottest jewelry designers are taking cues from Mother Earth and some of her most brilliantly colorful creations. Tree huggers are not the only ones who'll go wild for these styles. >>>

Do You Know the "Laws of Customer Experience"?
By Heidi Tolliver Nigro         Expert Business Source     April17.2009

It's all about customer loyalty these days, right? Why always be replacing customers if you can keep the ones you've got? One way to do that is to improve the way your business manages its interactions with customers. The more positive their interactions with your company, the more likely they are to stay customers.>>>

A look into the Indian diamond industry
By Mehdi Hassan                           April 20, 2009

Whenever I think of diamonds, the first thing that comes to my mind is the iconic song "Diamonds are a girl's best friend," which was picturised on Marilyn Monroe. I do not know whether diamonds are a girl's best friend or not, but they are shiny and they are expensive. The industry of diamond is not so big, yet it plays significant role in the economy of few countries in the world including India.>>>

InternetRetailer.com                                    April 17. 2009

Customers typing in the URL of a retailer accounted for 27% of the average retailer's e-commerce sales in 2008, the survey finds.>>>

The Facts and Fictions of Online Shipping Costs
E-Commerce Time                 By Denise J. Deveau                04/17/09

For some online shoppers, e-commerce bargains turn very sour the minute they get to the checkout page and find out what their shipping costs are going to be. Is "express shipping" just a ploy to pad the site's bottom line, especially since standard shipments sometimes arrive just as fast? Are sellers making a killing by jacking up transport prices? E-tailers say it's quite the opposite.>>>
