World renowned expert on Art Nouveau Jewelry, Dr. Joseph Sataloff, died on Sept. 26. He was 89 years old. Dr. Sataloff of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., a Philadelphia suburb, was first and foremost a physician, an Otolaryngologist. He was an accomplished surgeon in micro-surgical ear operations, and a university hospital professor.>>>

Online jewelry and watch sales for nearly the entire month of December fell 24 percent when compared to a similar period in 2007, according to digital tracking firm comScore. Overall online sales fell 3 percent for the entire holiday period (Nov. 1 - Dec. 24), the Reston, Va.-based company said. >>>

Consumers purchase antiques in struggling economy

Consumers are continuing to purchase antiques, including jewelry, paintings, furniture and collectibles, as investment opportunities during this struggling economy, according to DMG World Media. "Our clients have confirmed to us that individuals are continuing to purchase antiques, sculptures, art and jewelry as investments," DMG World Media Show Director Andrea Canady said in a media release. >>>

We were both visiting the city in order to attend the opening ceremony of the JJShow 2008 which was being held in Jaipur for the sixth consecutive year. Vasant Mehta was elected Chairman of the Gem & Jewelry Export Promotion Council of India at its forty-second annual meeting held on September 30 2008 in Mumbai, replacing Mr. Sanjay Kothari. >>>


Silver margins shine over holidays

Margins on sterling silver jewelry rose for 41 percent of jewelers over the holiday season, outpacing margin increases in all other product categories for November and December, according to those who responded to National Jeweler's annual post-holiday survey.
Preliminary results of the survey also indicate that 24 percent of respondents saw increased margins on finished diamond jewelry, and another 23 percent saw increased margins on colored-gemstone jewelry in November and December, compared with the same period last year. >>>

On February 25, 2000, a jury decreed that this society jeweler, with clients as well known as Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman, is responsible for cheating wealthy clients of $80 million. Hasson is now facing a prison term of up to 65 years and fines of $162 million. >>>
