If that doesn't get your attention, here's another title from a well-known economic journal: "Change or die ... slowly." No matter which headline got your attention first, the message is clear for the retail jewelry executive: Change management has become as important as product designing, diamond sourcing or store planning. What each of those headlines seems to imply is that we venerate leaders who make successful changes and scorn those who cling to their safer pasts.>>> |

Antwerp Diamond Conference Postponed

Antwerp's diamond offices raided
National Jeweler October 22, 2008 Belgium's federal police raided offices in Antwerp's diamond district last week, confiscating $150 million in goods, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) confirmed to National Jeweler.According to the AWDC, authorities confiscated $50 million in diamonds at the Diamond Office, Antwerp's import and export agency. The other $100 million worth of goods was confiscated at the offices of a diamond company.>>> |

Sotheby's Sale Sets American Watch Record

Sotheby's Important Watches sale in New York City Oct. 17 took in more than $4.1 million, the auction house said. The sale demonstrated "continued interest in pieces from the renowned collection of the Time Museum, Rockford, I ll.," said Aaron Rich, head of Sotheby's Watches Department. New York-High-net-worth consumers like shopping online because of the convenience and wealth of information available, a recent survey shows.The survey, called "A Look into the Internet's Impact on the Shopping Behavior of the Ultra-Affluent" and conducted in June by Unity Marketing, polled 1,000 wealthy consumers ages 24-64.Those included in the survey make more than $250,000 a year per couple (or $175,000 per person), or have a net worth of $1 million or greater.>>> |
