For jewelers, it's change or die
By Jan Brassem .National Jeweler                           10/27/2008

An article in a recent issue of Harvard Business Review was titled "Change or die." If that doesn't get your attention, here's another title from a well-known economic journal: "Change or die ... slowly." No matter which headline got your attention first, the message is clear for the retail jewelry executive: Change management has become as important as product designing, diamond sourcing or store planning. What each of those headlines seems to imply is that we venerate leaders who make successful changes and scorn those who cling to their safer pasts.>>>

The importance that the government attaches to the project was seen in the attendance of several of the country's cabinet ministers and deputy ministers and other high-ranking officials.>>>

Antwerp Diamond Conference Postponed

Jewelers Circular Keystone,           10/21/2008

"We have taken a decision to postpone the conference, despite the positive response to conference attendance," said Freddy J. Hanard, the AWDC CEO. "The conference has traditionally served as a roadmap for the world diamond community, and as such has come to be regarded as a must-attend event on the industry calendar. With the turmoil now taking place in the financial markets, we felt that it is essential that we allow the dust to settle first. We therefore thought it prudent to postpone the conference" >>>

Make Your Employees Provide GREAT Customer Service.
Jewelers of America         october 23, 2008

We've stressed again and again how critical customer service is, but while the message may be getting through to you, is it reaching your employees? If not, you'd better bring it home or you'll risk a disconnect between the kind of experience you provide to clients and what happens when you're not out on the sales floor.>>>

By Frank Tang and Jan Harvey,  Reuters   October 24, 2008

Landing Pages: Mix 'Em Up, See What Works Best
By
Eric J. Hansen    E-Commerce Times      10/27/2008                             :

The job of the modern Web site is more important and more difficult than ever, especially when it comes to a multichannel sales strategy. Visitors arrive at your Web site through a variety of online channels: pay-per-click (PPC) and organic search, e-mail offers and print ads. Once there, they need to fulfill the objective of acting upon a promotion, or buying a specific product.>>>

U.S. Jewelry Sales Softens, But Still Relatively Strong in August
By Ken Gassman   IDEX Online Research.   October 22, 2008

While total U.S. retail sales slowed dramatically in August, jewelry sales held up well. For the month, total jewelry sales in the U.S. market rose by over 2 percent; specialty jewelers' sales were up by more than 3 percent. Despite pressures on consumer spending, we consider August jewelry demand to be remarkable. The table below summarizes August jewelry sales as well as total retail sales (all categories) in the U.S. market. Sales data are measured as "dollars through the cash register" and are not seasonally adjusted nor have they been adjusted for inflation.>>>

Do women fuel jewelry-workplace feuds?
By Suzanne DeVries    National Jeweler      octubre 24, 2008

In my experience, the "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" theory, first espoused in the eponymous 1992 book by John Gray, extends beyond the differences between the sexes in terms of relationships, communication and emotions.
