MoneyWatch:Jan 25, 2008
PHILADELPHIA (CBS NEWS) -- At Philadelphia's Wolf Jewlers, customers are coming in. Not to buy - but to sell, CBS News correspondent Randall Pinkston reports.
"We call it a gold rush. People would come in and bring me their scrap gold," said Bob Wolf, the store's owner. "That's what we call it in the business - it's half an earring, or it's a dented piece." >>>

Zak Smith's bling may soon make him sing. And you too might be humming a happy tune if you've bought any diamond jewelry since 1994. I encountered Smith, 22, at one of the numerous shops that are in downtown L.A.'s jewelry district, several blocks of brightly lighted emporiums with cases full of glittering gold, silver and fanc y stones of all types. >>> |

By Mina Kimes January 24 2008
(FORTUNE Small Business)--Dear FSB: I've tried about every method in the books to promote my online jewelry store, but I'm still not seeing sales. It seems like unless you have megabucks for marketing and advertising on the Web, you can't compete with the big online retailers who dominate search engines. What's a startup to do? >>>

What to Buy for Valentine's Day? Here's an Idea De Beers Won't Like
Jewelry News Friday, January 25
What a Joke! De Beers has finally opened its wallet to settle their lawsuit for a mere $295M. Now, if we were talking one billion bucks (considering what they've been raking it in since the beginning of time) then maybe we'd all have something to get excited about! >>> |

Marketing
By Rob Bates, January 25, 2008
My post about De Beers cutting its U.S. marketing, and JWT's diamond account losing 11 employees, has gotten some interesting reactions.
Most emailers see it as a pretty serious blow to the American market. With the U.S. jewelry market not likely to grow much over the next year, they think De Beers now wants to spend its money in growing economies, like India and China, with greater upside potential. >>>
