China growth key to base metals markets: Barclays
Base metals prices should be well supported going forward into 2007 because of strong growth in China, despite evidence of slower growth in several developed countries such as the U.S., Barclays Capital said Thursday.
China has risen to not only the world's largest metals consumer but the main driver of global demand growth, according to Barclays Capital's 2006 Global Outlook report. Chinese trends such as urbanization, development of the transport network and investment in power generation and transmission "all serve to provide a base-load level of consumption that is relatively immune from the vagaries of the business cycle," the report added.

BURGLARY GANG ARRESTED
Collinsville , IL – September 17, 2006 Police in Collinsville, IL received a tip from a Chicago-area police agency about a possible jewelry store burglary that was to take place in Collinsville, IL (near St. Louis, MO), and they began surveillance of a jewelry store. At 5:30 a.m. on Sunday they saw four men force their way through the back of the retail jewelry store and emerge with a large quantity of merchandise, having broken into 15 showcases. The four suspects who were arrested are suspected of committing more than 50 break-ins throughout the Midwest and as far south as Georgia . Each of the suspects was being held on a $1 million bond. The suspects arrested on theft and burglary felony charges were Carlos Ramirez, 31, Raphael Flores, 30, Manuel Castro, 24, all of Chicago, and Jose Franco-Aguilar, 24, of Fontana , CA . Two other suspects are being sought. Police Departments in Iowa , Illinois , Wisconsin , Michigan , Indiana and Georgia are coordinating efforts to identify other burglaries by this gang.
