Report: Same-store sales up in September

OCTOBER 06, 2006 - Columbus, Ohio -- Same-store sales increased 4 percent in September for 60 retailers who reported monthly results on Thursday, according to consulting firm Retail Forward.

Apparel and accessories stores, department stores and drug stores represented growth leaders. The least growth came from discount department stores, warehouse clubs and dollar stores, Retail Forward reported.

September sales showed a slight increase from the 3.9 percent weighted sales composite seen in August 2006, and a slight decrease from the 4.1 percent composite reported in September 2005.

Retail Forward also recently released its holiday sales forecast, which expects sales to mature at a more moderate pace for the rest of the year. The company predicts 5.5 percent year-over-year growth in the fourth quarter. Such sales would fall below the 7.2 percent gain seen last holiday season and slightly below the average holiday growth rate since 1995, according to Retail Forward.

Retail Forward is a management consulting and market research firm specializing in retail intelligence and strategies.

On July 22, 2002, this suspect was buzzed through a controlled access door at a jewelry store in Edina, MN, accompanied by a juvenile female. A
short time later another adult male accomplice was also buzzed in. Once inside, the trio split up and engaged store staff in conversation. The suspect McCloud informed a sales associate that he was a "rapper" and that he wanted to purchase a flashy watch. As he was examining a watch valued at $27,000, the other male suspect was buzzed out of the store, but instead of leaving, he held the door open for McCloud, who then ran with the watch to a waiting getaway car. The police later apprehended the juvenile female and the accomplice who held the door open, but McCLoud got away and is still at large. An arrest warrant has been issued.

Ladies of fashion were not seen without one, and men wore them on their watch chains. During World War I, many soldiers wore lockets into battle as a reminder of loved ones at home.More
