TheKnot.com’s 2013 Engagement & Jewelry Study surveyed over 14,000 brides – either engaged or recently married within the past 12 months – along with 1,750 grooms.
We at GemFind have gathered some engagament ring trends from the survey:
- The study reports that grooms feel more comfortable discussing, evaluating and shopping for diamonds than brides.
- Fifty-nine percent of grooms said they felt comfortable dealing with diamonds, while only 42 percent of brides felt the same.
- Most grooms (88%) included the words “will you marry me” in their proposal, and 86% proposed with the ring in-hand.
- Most brides (64%) were involved in some way with the ring purchase.
- More than 60% of brides research engagement rings before their partner proposes.
- Brides typically feel more comfortable shopping with their partners than they do alone.
- While sixty-two percent of brides said they felt “very or somewhat comfortable” shopping for a ring by themselves, 74 percent felt “very or somewhat comfortable” when shopping with their fiancés.
- The survey also revealed that 42 percent of couples buy their engagement ring from a local independent jeweler, and when choosing the ring, the groom focuses on the quality while the bride is more concerned about the style.
