Takat Unearths Extraordinary "Divinity Emerald"
New York, NY Takat is no stranger to superlative emeralds and gemstones, but the 44ct emerald they are unveiling at the JCK Luxury show in Las Vegas this year is a once-in-a-lifetime find.
The exceptional piece is 44cts of fine quality Colombian material from the Muzo mine. It has a rich and even color and only minor oil - an already rare combination. With a perfect emerald cut and a big face-up appearance, the stone would command attention based on its quality alone.
Christopher Smith, President of the American Gemological Laboratories described it as such: "This remarkable gemstone possesses a cut and finish that instills an overall charm that is difficult to quantify, yet accentuates its appeal and exclusivity. Such a combination of quality factors, large size, absence of treatment, and origin determination, as present in this exceptional Colombian emerald is very rare."
Takat acquired the stone directly from the manufacturer and in the process of refining the stone to improve the life and symmetry, they made an extraordinary discovery about one of the stone's inclusions. Inclusions in emeralds are typically formed in fissures and veils creating a garden-like appearance. This stone, however, has a very distinctive black inclusion in the center of the stone that is a precise representation of the Arabic symbol for Allah. It is this 'mark of God' that inspired the name of the stone: "The Divinity Emerald." So extraordinary is this inclusion that GIA has seen fit to do their own independent write-up on the piece, to be released in June. CEO of Takat, Rayaz Takat, noted that "To have such a classic Arabic symbol of the Muslim faith that expresses God in the Arabic language, the creator of the universe and the judge of humankind, is a once in a lifetime find. While Takat has handled some of the finest gemstones on earth, this particular stone inspires special reverence."
The Divinity Emerald is indeed for sale, and will likely go to a collector who will appreciate not only its extraordinary quality but also its absolutely unique nature.
