Beyoncé: The Grammy's $10 Million Woman

At the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, it was a big night for Daft Punk winning album of the year and record of the year. In terms of fashion accessories, cocktail rings were the clear winner receiving accolades with celebrity endorsement as THE hot jewelry item at the famed music awards ceremony. Chief among the big backers of cocktail rings was Beyoncé, who wore $10 million in diamond jewelry from designer to the stars Lorraine Schwartz.

Beyoncé started the Grammys off performing “Drunk in Love” with her husband and renowned rapper Jay-Z. During the sultry chair dance performance, Beyoncé wore a body suit from Nichole de Carle and jewelry from Jennifer Fisher. But throughout the Grammy awards Beyoncé raised just as many eyebrows wearing a see-through white gown from designer Michael Costello, and predominantly diamond jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz.

With her left hand donning the 18-carat diamond ring engagement ring given to her by Jay-Z, a Schwartz-designed cocktail was the night’s understated complement. That left plenty of room to give Beyoncé’s right hand all the attention with a dazzling array of cocktail rings. A majority of rings were set with diamonds – large ones. A large ruby-set ring on her right pinky added a splash of color to her Grammy night accessorizing. With her shoulder-length wavy blonde hair, it was difficult to see the Lorraine Schwartz chandelier earrings Beyoncé wore during the event.

At last year’s Grammys Beyoncé wore jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz to complement her black and white pantsuit. But it was the fashion accessories worn the previous month at the presidential inauguration that grabbed the headlines, when Beyoncé wore $2.5 million in emerald-set jewelry.(Photo courtesy of

Given the honor of singing the National Anthem at the 2013 presidential event, all eyes were on Beyoncé and her 130 carats of emerald jewelry – namely a gumdrop-sized emerald ring (50-carats) and matching earrings (80 carats) by Lorraine Schwartz.

Beyoncé is no stranger top-end fine jewelry, often wearing jaw-dropping fashion accessories designed by Lorraine Schwartz. The two seem to have an appreciation for each other that goes beyond designer and celebrity. On her Instagram page, Lorraine Schwartz posted: “My muse, my friend, my bling queen – my true gem” along with a photograph of her and Beyoncé prepping for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.

But Beyoncé knows a thing or two about jewelry designing. Back in 2008, Beyoncé and her mother Tina Knowles added jewelry to their already hugely successful House of Dereon. Famous red carpet moments with jewelry include the 2009 Golden Globe Awards when Beyoncé wore a stunning diamond collar from Lorraine Schwartz. And, at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards Beyoncé donned a notable amount of emerald and diamond jewelry, again from Lorraine Schwartz.

After the birth of her daughter Blue Ivy, Beyoncé created a “Blue” name pendant and necklace design. In 2012, Beyoncé was named People magazine’s Most Beautiful Woman of Year. The magazine cover photo marking the event featured Beyoncé wearing a large turquoise necklace from – you guessed it – Lorraine Schwartz. Heidi Klum wore the same turquoise necklace at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards. But for the People cover photo shoot that same year, Beyoncé wore the necklace backwards.

The singing sensation received accolades for the magazine’s honor and putting a clever twist on giving a previously seen necklace on the red carpet, a new perspective and a fresh look. Like many notable celebs, Beyoncé has become a fashion icon with a penchant for fine jewelry. Her relationship with Lorraine Schwartz is certainly establishing Beyoncé as a collector of fine jewelry that may one day be the stuff of important jewelry sales at esteemed auction houses.
