Instagram Goes Paid, Reveals Ad Format

Written by Alex | October 25, 2013

Photo-based social media network Instagram has opened its platform to advertising with commercial messages.

Instagram is rolling out ads slowly, opening the paid feature to select brands with already established accounts on the site.

The ad examples show images that fit in with user-generated content, although Instagram ads will have a “Sponsored” in place of the time stamp.

Instagram has revealed it will work with Facebook likes to target ads. The company hasn't mentioned how many ads users will be exposed to.

US users will be the first to get a taste of the new ad regime as early as this week with a one-time ad directly from Instragram.

Ads will allow users to hide ads outside their interest and provide feedback.
