By William George Shuster,           JCK       3.30.2009

U.S. astronauts who have walked on the moon and bravely pioneered space exploration were the stars of a celebration of the 40th anniversary of human beings' first lunar landing, presented by Omega, the first and only watch worn on the moon, at BaselWorld 2009 on Mar. 28.>>>

Report: U.S. retail development to slow in 2009
By Jerilynn Caliendo     National Jeweler           March 30.2009

Encino, Calif.--With both consumer demand and financing drying up, developers are putting the brakes on new retail centers this year, according to the latest report from real estate investment firm Marcus and Millichap. The firm predicts that only 90 million square feet of retail space will open this year, compared with 131 million square feet last year, marking the lowest amount of development since 1995.>>>

Diamantaires: Introducing YouTube - More Than You Ever Imagined
By: Uri Haviv and Rachel Lieberman    The Israeli Diamond Industry  3.24.2009

A few years back, only a lucky few could use this vital tool, as it was expensive and rather clumsy, and numerous attempts to expand and develop it failed.  Many Internet enterprises were launched and welcomed only to fade away. The combination of video clips on news, sports, entertainment and leisure sites seemed like a distant fantasy. Even more elusive was the concept of uploading personal video clips by web users. >>>

E-commerce Website Mistakes to Avoid
By Shari Waters                       About.com

To effectively sell online, an e-commerce website should be appealing to the shopper and very simple to use. Retailers want the website to flow so that it easily guides visitors through the sales process. Avoid these pitfalls when designing and developing an e-commerce website. No Contact Info: Offer visitors multiple ways to connect to you. Retailers should prominently display phone number, fax number, email or contact form and store location. >>>

The Untold Story of the World's Biggest Diamond Heist
By Daniel Kehrer             JEWELRY.COM        MARCH 25,2009

Diamond heists, burglar rings and vault break-ins are usually fictional fodder for great movies like To Catch A Thief and the Ocean's 11 franchise. But in February 2003, a real-life gang of Italian thieves completed what experts thought was a 'mission impossible'. They broke into the Antwerp Diamond Center vault and made out with diamonds, gold, jewelry and other loot worth at least $100 million.>>>

Summon Up Honesty and Respect...Then Fire People !
By PAUL B. BROWN          The New York Times         March 2009

"It's perhaps the single most unpleasant task a boss must take care of," the aptly named Web site howtofiresomeone.com says. "The mere consideration of it makes your gut clench up, your palms sweat, your head pound. Trepidation courses through your body, making you tense. You snap at your spouse or significant other. You tune out your kids. You pace the floor." But there are times, like now, that you may have to do it. Experts offer the following advice.>>>

A Four-Prong Solution to Overgrading Blue Fluorescent Diamonds
By Michael D. Cowing, AGA Certified Gem Laboratory   colored-stone.com

The term "blue-white" has been synonymous with top diamond color for centuries. But after the explosion in supply of cape (yellow-series) diamonds from South Africa in the late 19th century, the term became as synonymous with fraud as it was fine quality. How chillingly relevant it is to learn from chemist Frank Wade's 1916 book on diamonds that diamond dealers were just as on guard against blue-fluorescent, "false color" diamonds at the turn of the 20th century as they are at the turn of the 21st.>>>

The Employers, Employees and Independent Contractors - Who Owns the Copyright?
By Javad Heydary   E-Commerce Times           03/24/09

I frequently encounter intellectual property disputes between companies and independent contractors doing work for those companies. Often, the disputes involve trying to determine who owns the copyright to materials developed during their working relationship. Whether you are an employer or a worker, failing to know your rights with respect to copyright can be a costly mistake.>>>
