Joining California's new Gold Rush BBC News, California May 23, 2008
In America, record prices are fuelling a new Gold Rush - 160 years after thousands descended on California, seeking riches. Retailers will face weaker 2008 sales By Anne D'Innocenzio / Associated Press May 23, 2008
The latest reports from the nation's merchants show that higher energy and food bills and slumping home values are pressuring shoppers so much they're being forced to nibble at the edges -- buying single pillows rather than whole sets and opting for new paint instead of renovating. The weakening climate could also spell more store closings and layoffs, as the industry looks ahead to a second half of 2008 that could be worse than the first half. >>>

Keep rival sales associates from behaving badly
National Jeweler May 21, 2008
In retail, a little competition can be a good thing, as it keeps salespeople on their toes and prompts them to push one another to achieve and exceed their goals. Sometimes, however, the competitive spirit among members of a sales team can get so intense, it causes discord and dissension-and, as the team leader, you can end up in the unenviable position of having two valued team members who actually dislike and resent one another. >>>
