Gold fell on Monday after erasing overnight gains, as the dollar's recovery against key currencies lowered the metal's appeal as an alternative investment. The metal, traditionally seen as a safe-haven asset, did not react to news that an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 struck Sichuan province in southwest China. >>>

Affluent Consumers Spent 11% Less on Jewelry in 2007

Revenues and profits for luxury retailers in 2007 are likely to be much more modest than they were in 2006, according to Unity Marketing. The average luxury consumer spent about 4.4 percent less on luxury goods overall in 2007, Unity concluded, and therefore the 10 percent increase overall in 2006 will be history -- at least for now.  Jewelry purchases grew much more conservative. >>>
