Diamonds and Pearls for Hillary
JCK-Jewelers Circular Keystone, 11/16/2007

The Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas Thursday closed with a question from an audience member that could only have been answered by Hillary Clinton.

"Do you prefer diamonds or pearls?" a young woman asked.

"Now, I know I'm sometimes accused of not being able to make a choice," Clinton said. "I want both."

Hit by economic fears like rising gas prices, a crumbling housing market and smaller Wall Street bonuses, U.S. shoppers may not be inclined to splurge on the most expensive of baubles this holiday.
Instead, since times are tougher, jewelry retailers are setting up to face wary consumers who may spurn expensive gold and diamonds this season, for more affordable pearls, semi-precious stones and silver. >>>

Gold Deemed an Endangered Present in '07
By LAUREN VILLAGRAN

Gold necklaces, earrings and bracelets may be crossed off some gift lifts this holiday season: With gold close to $800 an ounce, these perennial presents may be too much for some shoppers' budgets.

In Manhattan's famed Diamond District, Chris Carlson walked out of a store empty-handed. Gold jewelry won't be on her shopping list this year, she said.

"A little of the reason I'm not even considering it is because of the price increase," said Carlson, visiting from Omaha.>>>

Guess who paid $16M for a diamond?
National Jeweler November 15, 2007

Guess Jeans founder Georges Marciano paid approximately $16.2 million for an 84.37-carat diamond at Sotheby's on Wednesday, the second-highest price ever paid for a diamond at auction.

Named the "Chloe Diamond" by Marciano, the flawless D-color stone set auction records.

It was the largest flawless brilliant-cut white diamond ever offered at auction and, at $191,980 a carat, set the record for the highest price per carat ever paid for a white diamond at auction. >>>

My Top Seven Closing Techniques
Brad Huisken expertbusinesssource.
After reading hundreds of books and sales and closing techniques I have been able to take the one hundred or one thousand closing techniques and reduce them down to seven closing techniques that I feel are appropriate for most salespeople. As many of you know I do not believe in clever, deceptive or manipulative closing techniques. I think that closing the sale should be a natural transition in the selling process. So here are my top seven closing techniques. The main thing that all sales people need to remember is that no matter what you have to ask the customer to buy once merchandise has been shown. Unless of course the customer says those three magic words, "I'll take it!" >>>

The Jewelry Showroom - A New Hybrid of Jewelry Stores?

By Mike Hall Sunday, November 18, 2007 7

Hot trends in jewelry for the Holiday season are shaping up to offer up a big message to jewelry retailers. High end jewelers may feel the pinch this holiday season with gold and platinum prices at an all time high.

Gems set into 10KT. gold may fair better than gemstones set in 14KT. and 18KT. gold however, one thing is crystal clear, consumers have become savvy shoppers when it comes to seeking a bargain plus, the "look". >>>
