Here is a ring with a story (and a very, very happy ending).
American 2nd Lt. David C. Cox had just about reached his breaking point when he traded his gold aviator’s ring, a gift from his parents, with an Italian POW for a few chocolate bars.
He had lived as a prisoner of World War II for a year and a half and was subsisting on small rations of bug-infested soup and bread. The POW never saw his ring again, but it did not disappear.
The ring made its way to the tiny Bavarian village of Hohenberg when a small dinner party began making connections about the lost ring.
In a long story intertwined with history, generosity and the gift of technology, a small package made its way from a Hungarian family to American soil where the former Lieutenant’s son welcomed the cherished ring home.
