Birthstones: we all have them.
A birthstone is a gemstone that is traditionally associated with qualities that symbolize the month of birth in the Gregorian calendar. Luckily, it's also another reason to wear great jewelry.
August babies fall in the month of the peridot gemstone.
Peridot is said to host magical powers and healing properties to protect against nightmares and to bring the wearer power, influence, and a wonderful year. Peridot is a jolly stone and signifies friendship.
This gemstone forms deep inside the Earth and is brought to the surface by volcanoes. Today, most of the peridot supply comes from Arizona with other sources in China, Myanmar and Pakistan.
This classic gemstone comes in several color variations ranging from yellowish green to brown, but most popular are the bright lime greens and olive greens.
Less popular when compared to the peridot is the sardonyx, a sort of secondary birthstone for August. Sardonyx is a form of onyx and is recognized by its layers of reddish brown and white banding.
Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Demi Lovato and Lea Michele all share the peridot birthstone.
